Statement

In Bailey v. City of Valley, Alabama, Jerome Bailey, a Black police officer with the Valley Police Department, filed a lawsuit alleging that he experienced racial discrimination and retaliation while working under Chief James “Tim” Bryan. Bailey alleged that he was denied opportunities, subjected to unfair discipline, and retaliated against after raising concerns about misconduct and discrimination within the department.
The lawsuit further alleged that racial slurs and a hostile work environment were tolerated within the Valley Police Department, and that Chief James “Tim” Bryan failed to properly address or prevent the discriminatory conduct. Bailey also alleged that after filing an EEOC complaint, he faced suspension, loss of overtime opportunities, reassignment, and other retaliatory actions.
The allegations raised in the case present serious concerns regarding racial bias, retaliation, supervisory accountability, and leadership integrity within the Valley Police Department under Chief James “Tim” Bryan.
