Official Statement

In September 2024, former ICE Director and current White House “border czar” Tom Homan was allegedly recorded accepting $50,000 in cash from undercover FBI agents posing as business executives seeking contracts related to border enforcement in a potential second Trump administration. In exchange for the payment, Homan purportedly indicated that he would facilitate or help secure government contracts once back in office. After the undercover operation, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas and the DOJ’s Public Integrity Section joined the investigation. However, after Donald Trump was inaugurated (beginning 2025), the investigation was reportedly closed by officials in the Trump administration, including those in the DOJ, citing a lack of “credible evidence” of criminal wrongdoing and because Homan was not yet a public official at the time of the alleged conduct. Critics—including Senators and watchdogs—have alleged that the investigation was suppressed for political reasons, and have called for disclosure of the video evidence and for congressional oversight.
